Two brothers have achieved a world first by flying a manned bathtub around a gym.
Da Vinci himself would have been proud of the human-sized flying machine which was piloted around the empty hall in Germany.
It’s the brain child of Johannes and Philipp Mickenbecker, who used drone technology but on a larger scale.
The pair – who call themselves The Real Life Guys – spent two months sourcing the components for the project, which required special stabilising propellers.
It took a further fortnight to build the 120 horse-power contraption with the help of friends at Exabotix and sponsorship from Conrad Electronics.
The German government was also involved as it had to grant permission for the project, which was allowed to go ahead as it was taking place at a height of under 100 feet.
The completed aircraft was then flown around Exabotix’s gym in Niedersachsen with a pilot inside.
Since posting the video online on Christmas Day, the pair have received a number of positive responses and hope to take the machine outside one day.
Philipp said: “The response to our video was very good.
“Most of our subscribers did not believe that we would succeed.
“Most thought that we would break our bones – we asked them in a survey before.
“It is the world’s first manned flying bathtub, so it is pretty amazing.
“A lot of our subscribers even told us to start a company selling those bathtub drones.”
